For nearly a year we've had to put up with over-inflated energy bills, fuelled by large costs for nature resources like oil many gas and electricity providers had to push up prices of energy in order to make sure they didn't lose money on the millions of UK residents they provided utilities for.
Around the mid point of this year oil and some of it's by-products like petrol slowly began to drop in cost, petrol alone has come down from 117.9p per litre to 89.9p a price that we last paid around three years ago before the whole energy crisis.
What made no sense though was how many energy companies were reporting tremendous profits despite many people questioning why their bills have not come down in line with the cost of oil at the resource.
Many companies have now suffered a backlash of disgruntled customers who when warned about high energy costs last year began being more frugal with their energy use and yet have been told their
electricity bills are going to rise yet again!
A lot of these instances have been met with fierce protest and many customers have phoned up their energy providers demanding a reading of their meter as proof of their lower usage for 2008. These customers are the same ones who were told a few years ago that by paying by direct debit that they could make significant savings.
The trouble with paying for your bills by direct debit is that the money will often be taken from your account with little to no notification, and when many people receive letters form their energy company they throw them away believing them to be junk and so any written notice of bill changes will often go unnoticed.
Well this recent price hike has people taking notice of the lack of change to people's bills and many people have managed to get their
utilities company to double check and cancel the price increases.
Electricity Company E-On have now made a statement that they will reduce bills starting next year should the fall in wholesale energy prices continue, and they aren't the only ones with Centrica also pledging that they will soon be able to pass on the discounts on energy to their subscribers. For now it is best to query any rises and ask for a meter reading if you feel your energy usage has been less than usual.
